EHS Unit Bargaining Update March 5th, 2018
The Union and Company met outside of official bargaining on March 1st and 2nd in an attempt to develop a framework with which we can reach a deal. The committees worked late into the night March 1st as well as late into the evening of March 2nd. We had hoped to finalize the framework for an agreement and iron out any minor details when we resume official bargaining March 12th. Unfortunately, we were unable to do so. However, things are moving in a very positive manner and both sides feel we are close to something that can be finalized. During these recent meetings, we asked the company to provide certain data to enable us to make some informed decision on a particular issue and are awaiting that data now. Since both parties feel we are close, the Union offered to hold off on a strike vote in an attempt to complete the framework. We are back in meetings again today (March 5th) and tomorrow (March 6th).
On a separate note, the company recently communicated and encouraged members to use all remaining floater days prior to March 31st. While this request is reasonable and floater days, if you have them, should be used within the contract year, the insinuation or statement; “if you don’t use them, you lose them”, is incorrect. You do not lose floater days if they are unused.
We hope to have some positive news shortly.
